Curriculum

 

I base my lessons on the 5th grade objectives in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS). 

 

What your student will be learning this year in…

Science (5th Grade Science NCSCOS)

  • Weather – water cycle, national weather patterns, fronts, cloud types
  • Landforms – how wind and water shape landforms (erosion), the layers of the earth, and reading landforms on a topographical map
  • Force & Motion – Basic physics concepts, Newton’s Laws of Motion, simple machines,
  • Ecosystems & Biomes – communities’ organisms and their interdependency and how materials in nature are recycled

Math (5th Grade Math NCSCOS)

  • Number Sense & Operations – add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
  • Measurement – Metric & Customary and converting between systems
  • Geometry – Understanding the classification of polygons & finding missing angles of triangles & quadrilaterals
  • Data Analysis & Probability – make and read graphs especially line graphs, collect and analyze data
  • Algebra – solving one step inequalities
